The health of our future generations depends on the strength of our pediatric respiratory care today. The European Respiratory Society is proud to host this two-day conference in Sheffield, dedicated exclusively to the unique challenges of treating children with lung disorders. From neonatal respiratory distress to adolescent cystic fibrosis management, this conference covers the entire spectrum of pediatric pulmonology. Sheffield’s world-renowned Children’s Hospital makes the city a premier location for this gathering of the brightest minds in the field.

The first day of the conference focuses on early-life origins of lung disease. We will examine how prenatal factors and early childhood infections influence long-term respiratory health. Recent studies suggest that the "window of opportunity" for intervention is much earlier than previously thought. Sessions will cover the latest guidelines on managing bronchiolitis, the transition from neonatal intensive care to home-based ventilation, and the growing prevalence of childhood sleep apnea. Expert clinicians will share their techniques for performing non-invasive lung function tests in toddlers, a notoriously difficult but essential task.

Day two shifts the focus to chronic and rare pediatric conditions. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) care has seen a revolution with CFTR modulators, and this conference will provide a deep dive into the long-term monitoring of children on these therapies. We will also host a dedicated track on "Rare Lung Diseases in Children," providing a platform for discussing interstitial lung diseases and primary ciliary dyskinesia. These sessions emphasize the importance of international registries and collaborative research in tackling orphan diseases that no single center can manage alone.

Beyond the clinical sessions, the conference features a "Young Investigators" poster session, showcasing the work of emerging researchers in pediatric pulmonology. This is a vital part of the ERS mission to foster the next generation of respiratory leaders. Networking events throughout the conference will allow for the exchange of ideas between senior consultants and junior trainees. This event is a call to action for all healthcare providers to improve the standards of pediatric care and ensure that every child has the chance to breathe easily.
