safeTALK Training Course
The Law Society of Scotland is proud to host the safeTALK Training Course, a specialized half-day workshop dedicated to suicide alertness and mental health support within the legal profession. As part of the Society’s ongoing commitment to member wellbeing, this in-person session in Edinburgh provides a safe and supportive environment for legal professionals to develop life-saving communication skills.
In the high-pressure world of law, the mental health of practitioners, trainees, and staff is of paramount importance. safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone) is an internationally recognized program designed by LivingWorks. It aims to help participants recognize when a person may be having thoughts of suicide and provides them with the tools to connect that person with life-saving intervention resources. This is not just a seminar; it is a practical, interactive workshop that moves beyond general awareness into active preparedness.
Why attend? Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Often, these opportunities are missed, dismissed, or avoided—leaving people more alone and at greater risk. safeTALK-trained "alert helpers" are prepared to notice these invitations and take action by connecting people with further support. This training is particularly relevant for those in leadership roles, HR, or anyone working in high-stress legal environments where burnout and mental health struggles can be prevalent.
By the end of this session, attendees will feel more confident and competent in addressing a topic that is often stigmatized. The Law Society of Scotland emphasizes that while this training is intense, it is vital for creating a supportive community within the Scottish legal sector. This event is an investment in the "human" side of the profession, ensuring that colleagues and clients alike have access to an empathetic and alert support network.
