Meet the New Cast of Netflix's 'Beef' Season 2: Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan Star
Hungry for more Beef? Luckily for fans of the Netflix dark comedy, the Lee Sung Jin-created anthology series will soon welcome a second season with an entirely new plot and a new cast to match.
Premiering all eight 30-minute episodes on Thursday, April 16, Beef season 2 will follow up its Emmy-winning first season by following two very different couples â millennial duo Josh and Lindsay (played by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan), who run a local country club, and Gen Z pair Austin and Ashley (Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny), two of the club's lower-level staffers â who get unexpectedly entangled in each other's relationships.
âSeason 1âs beef is so overt and aggressive. I thought Season 2 should be the inverse: a passive-aggressive beef, which is more true to life, especially in a workplace,â Lee told Netflix Tudum about the characters' conflict, adding: âWe thought, âWhat if we actually made them a little bit closer in age and highlight that generational divide?ââ
Ahead of the dramedy's premiere, let's take a bite out of the starry cast of Beef season 2.

Oscar Isaac
In Beef season 2, Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac plays Josh MartÃn, the general manager of a country club and husband to Carey Mulliganâs character. Much of the new eps center on a colossal fight between the couple, on which the Guatemalan-born star told Deadline he and his scene partner worked heavily to ensure its realistic tension: âWe did improvisations, we did rehearsals where we taped out the thing, almost like a theater play.â
Now one of Hollywoodâs most versatile leading men, the 47-year-old had his breakthrough as a Bob Dylan-esque beatnik in the 2013 musical drama Inside Llewyn Davis. In the decade-plus since, heâs had memorable roles in films like A Most Violent Year (2014), Ex Machina (2015), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) and last yearâs Frankenstein on Netflix. Isaac is arguably best-known for his roles in two major sci-fi franchises: as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy (2015â2019) and as Leto Atreides in Denis Villeneuveâs Dune films.Â

Three-time Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan stars opposite Oscar Isaac as Lindsay Crane-MartÃn, whose marital spat serves as the inciting incident of the season. âWhat was important to us, I think, was that they really do love each other and when they meet, they were as annoyingâĻ they really had like that obsessive, sort of, gorgeous, first-flush thing,â Mulligan said of the couple, per Extra. âThey had that real romantic history and theyâve been together for a really long time, but I think youâre meeting them at their worst.â
Since her film debut in 2005âs Pride & Prejudice, the 40-year-old Brit has starred in 2009âs An Education(for which she won the BAFTA), 2011âs Drive and Shame, 2013âs The Great Gatsby, 2020's Promising Young Woman, 2023âs Maestro and last yearâs The Ballad of Wallis Island.Beef marks an onscreen reunion between Mulligan and her Inside Llewyn Davis costar Oscar Isaac.

Who was in the cast of Beef season 1?
The first season of Netflix's Beef was led by Steven Yeun as Danny Cho andAli Wong as Amy Lau, as two parties in a road rage incident. They were joined by George Nakai as Amy's husband George, Patti Yasutake as George's mother Fumi, Young Mazino as Danny's younger brother Paul and David Choe as Danny's cousin. Maria Bello, Ashley Park, Mia Serafino, Remy Holt, Justin H. Min and Andrew Santino also appear in a recurring capacity.
Who is not returning for Beef season 2?
Because Beef is an anthology series, the storyline and subsequent cast of each installment change up with each season. That means that the main cast from season one, including leads Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, are not reprising their roles in season two; however, both actors remain signed on as executive producers on the project. As mentioned, the second season will see an entirely new plotline and cast, led by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan.
