Sheffield Hallam University is proud to host the 2026 Women’s University Rugby Development Day in collaboration with the Rugby Football League (RFL) and BUCS. This high-energy event is designed to champion the growth of women’s rugby league within the higher education sector. Led by former England international and rugby legend Andrea Dobson MBE, the day is focused on skill progression, professional coaching, and creating pathways for female athletes.
The development day is open to current university players as well as students considering pursuing rugby at the collegiate level. The schedule includes intensive practical workshops, tactical training drills, and positional coaching sessions led by the professional coaching staff of the Sheffield Eagles. Beyond the physical training, the event offers invaluable networking opportunities, allowing players to connect with scouts, professional coaches, and fellow athletes from across the country.
One of the unique features of this event is its focus on the "student-athlete" journey. Seminars throughout the day will address how to balance academic rigor with the demands of competitive sport. Participants will also receive complimentary entry to the Sheffield Eagles vs Hull KR Women’s Championship fixture, providing a direct look at the professional standards of the game. This day is not just about playing rugby; it is about empowering women to lead in sports and fostering a community that supports their long-term athletic and professional growth.
