Tay Keith Dead at 29: Artists Pay Tribute to Grammy-Nominated Producer

Tay Keith died this week at the age of 29, and several of his collaborators and peers have now come together to honor the Grammy-nominated producer.

It was announced on Thursday (June 18) that Tay Keith (real name Brytavious Lakeith Chambers) had been found dead in his apartment that morning by officers performing a welfare check. Metro Nashville Police confirmed that no foul play was suspected.

The hit-making producer worked extensively with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Drake, Eminem, and Memphis rapper BlocBoy JB, the latter of whom Keith got his breakthrough with thanks to the Drizzy-featuring "Look Alive."

BlocBoy expressed his heartbreak following the news in a series of Instagram Story posts. He shared a photo showing the two of them together when they were younger, as well as a video showing their call history and how often they spoke. He also confirmed he's delaying his forthcoming mixtape.

"Never thought you'll leave this b**chs before me thru my downs you kept me up you was and will always be the brother I never had," he wrote.

Fellow Memphis artist Juicy J also honored the producer with a post on X. "Can't believe I'm saying this RIP TAY KEITH Memphis Tenn Legend," he wrote. "Prayers up for the family friends & fans we lost a great one."

Keith, who began producing music when he was just 17, had a huge impact on the culture in a small amount of time. His credits include Drake's "Nonstop," Beyoncé's "Before I Let Go," Eminem's "Not Alike," Lil Baby's "Never Recover," and Sexyy Red's "Pound Town," among many others.

He also earned two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Song, with Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode" in 2019 and Drake and 21 Savage's "Rich Flex" in 2024.
