The Hand last appeared in Daredevil and The Defenders on Netflix. The mystical ninja assassins receive a comic-accurate makeover in the upcoming Marvel film. A mysterious woman now leads the criminal group, and many fans believe she could be Mariko Yashida. Tao Okamoto will likely not reprise her role from 2013’s The Wolverine, however.

Brand New Day takes place four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter Parker lives alone and anonymously in New York City after erasing himself from everyone’s memory. He devotes himself entirely to protecting the city as Spider-Man on a full-time basis. An unexpected physical change then threatens his existence while a strange and dangerous crime wave emerges.
The cast also features Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. Destin Daniel Cretton directs from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor produce the film. Details about Tombstone and Sadie Sink’s mystery character still remain under wraps.
The Empire issue hits newsstands on Thursday, June 4. Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas on July 31, 2026.
